When I first started out in web site design I was given a list of essential questions from the person who taught me, to ask potential clients. These questions really help with the design process of a clients web site and graphics and I always use them every time I have clients come to me for my services. The questions help engage both the client and company in the process and it is a way for both the client and company to understand each other on all levels.

Here are the questions you are waiting for. Sorry if this post is a bit large but I can say I don’t want to skip anything out, hope you all don’t mind 🙂 .

Web Design Planning Questions:

1. What is your preferred method of contact? Email/Phone

2. What time is the best time to reach you?

3. Do you have a website plan?

4. How many total web-pages will you need or do you think you will need (Approximate)?

5. Is it possible for you to give me a rough tree structure of your website?

6. Is your site for a business, personal, or non-profit?

7. Descriptions – a general description of your website purpose (Please Let me know what apply):
– To provide information
– To teach
– To sell products
– To provide communication
– To help gain new business
– To collect information
– Any other information

8. Your target audience – a description of who your visitors will be?

9. What keywords do you think people will type in a search engine to find your products and services?

10. Features that you would like to offer: Message board, Articles, Newsletter, Photographs of products etc.

11. What regions do you service?

12. Any Admired websites/ Other Sites… Please List some sites that you admire.

13. Time Frame – When do you expect to have your website completed?

14. Maintenance – Will you need changes to the website? – If yes, how often will you need them?
15. Content – Where will I get content for all web-pages?

16. Images… Where can I get images for your website? Will there be a need to take some latest Pictures using Digital Camera?
17. Do you have a logo? If not, do you have any logo concept in mind?

18. Do you have any color preference for your website? Please provide few colors you wish your website to be designed in.

19. Link Popularity… Do you know any website that is related to your theme who might link to you?

20. Do you need hosting?

21. Do you need a domain name?

22. If you require a domain name, what 5 choices would interest you?
